Geoffrey Cook studied Classical languages (Latin & Greek) at Kenyon, followed by graduate degrees at Berkeley in South Asia Area Studies including Indian Art History. Cook’s doctoral work emphasized British Indian History, with a dissertation looking at high administrators' poetry to get a psychological insight into policy. Cook’s formal title at present is Non-Resident Fellow at the Beirut Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

All in all a strange training for an artist!
