Biography

Volker Hamann aka AnthroArt, born and raised on the rural outskirts of Cologne, the German artist and musician studied anthropology in Berlin, smuggled art materials through the 'iron curtain' to East Berlin, later developing his Anthropological Art Project 'AnthroArt', collaborating with locals and learning from their strategies on his various field trips (West Africa with Suzanne Wenger, Pays Basque, Japan). He was active in the international mail-art network and now continues playing obscure roles in on- and offline networks, performing unannounced, questioning everyday life and positions of the art-scene people.
